New addition on 6/4/16 from 1978

Stan - N5JFQ recently sent this photo to Jim - W5JCS taken of him for the Collector And Emitter showing the Dayton HamVention 1978 Grand Prize winner who was WB5YWO!  Yes, WB5YWO was Jim - W5JCS back in the day!

Pre-History - according to N0BIX

According to N0BIXie these snap shots were taken during the 1980 HamVention in the Flea Market and Old Blue is kind of shown in the background.  Good grief!  Look how dark ZWJ's beard is!

Here is a snap shot of Hoss taken on May 3, 1980.  Is he imitating the Statue of Liberty or having trouble getting into the repeater?  You decide!

In 1980, Hoss, WA5ZAI, assigned to Offitt A.F.B. in Omaha, Nebraska, convinced Bob, N0BIX (who was stationed there) to join him in the Offitt A.F.B. 20 meter station set up for that Field Day.  Now, this was not any ordinary Field Day endeavor.  First, notice the fine candelabra on the tuner in front of Hoss.  Secondly, they both have boasted how neither of them actually operated the station during that Field Day.  Instead, they coerced fellow hams to come into their tent and operate for them by plying them with beer, soft drinks, fresh fruit and other delights!

Hoss tests the station prior to FD beginning.                             Sunday dress for the pair of station hosts!

In January of 1981 N0BIXie must have been having trouble hitting the repeater with his HT.  So, he decided to improve his signal by improving on the antenna attached to the HT.

Yes, he actually attached a 2 Meter Ringo Ranger to his HT!  Some said it was for the birds!  Others thought that he had just turned a little chicken......cluck, cluck, CLUCK!

Below is a snap shot of KB0Y surrounded by his 1981 HamVention toys while he takes a snooze.  The gang from Omaha stayed in the basement at Hoss' place in Englewood which at that time was rented to Hoss' daughter, Tina and her family.

WA8ZWJ went to Omaha a number of times over the years to visit with Hoss and the Omaha  ham radio gang.  This shot is from his visit in April of 1982 (spring break).  The drink in his hands was called the "Why Not?".

A special thanks to Bob, N0BIX for his efforts in bringing us a bit of IOOK Pre History!

This photo of Joe, K5JB was taken in 1979 or 1981 by Jim, W5JCS.

Thanks to Jim for his contribution!
