The following text was taken from the e-mail document that was
sent out to the IOOK prior to the 2003 HamVention. Imagine this - it
actually was the 22nd Gathering!
Attention IOOK!
The 22nd Annual "Gathering
Of The Faithful" is rapidly approaching! It will occur on Friday, May 16th
starting at 6:30 PM at the Farley estate. Y’all plan to attend!!!
Our Flea market
spaces are the same as the last few years: 3347, 3348, 3349 and Tom, WA5KUB, and
the rest of the Arkansas gang will be next door….again! Tom plans to have live
streaming video during their travels Wednesday and during the flea market
through HamVention! If you can’t make the hamfest, at least you can say hi to
us and see what is going on at the booth! (tmedlin.com/hamvention.html)
We have reservations for the
all-you-can-eat buffet at Rob’s in Brookville scheduled for Saturday evening
at 6:30 PM. You can also order off the menu if you prefer. Separate checks will
be set up, so, no need to R.S.V.P. Just plan on being there!
We hope to B C N U soon! Many
thanks!
Best 73, Zed W. Jay and the IOOK.
An additional document was e-mailed to the gang as well.

A couple of snap shot collogues were included with the
"Post-HamVention" e-mail:
Howdy IOOK!
Well, here it is, the Post HamVention note for 2003! Sunday evening several of us sat down and made some notes of items from the weekend
that we felt deemed being highlighted.
Since we are a radio related un-organization, I think I should start with a radio related item.
As many of you know, the Flea Market radio in the van was nearly un-useable Friday because of interference.
KF8KK took it upon himself to correct the problem by purchasing a filter cavity and tuning it at the "Gathering".
The results were amazing! He has donated the tuned cavity to the flea market set up
stuff for future use! Thanks Johnny!
Among firsts for HamVention and the Flea Market were WA5KUB's streaming video and KBob's streaming video Internet Flea Market
purchase! Incredible! The pictures were a bit slow at times because the site was taking so many hits!
I think Tom said the site took almost 6,000 hits Thursday alone! Naturally, KUB made the sale
from their space rather than ours because it was raining and they had the "door" up between our booths!
KBob couldn't see our stuff because of the door!
Wow! Thursday night was a fantastic with every table filled at the Toll House Tavern!
Great turn out! The early morning crowd enjoyed the hospitality of the California Garden breakfasts!
We also had a great turn out Friday at the 22nd annual "Gathering of the Faithful"!
Fast Eddie (W8ED) came up with a new "unit" for the beer that doesn't use ice!
Such a deal! Saturday night we had about 50 show up for the Rob's all you can eat buffet.
Sunday night at Marion's Piazza was well attended as well! As it has been said many times, the IOOK travels on
it's stomach.
Lunch Chef, NN3V and his able assistant, W8TVC out did themselves by providing our group with gourmet quality sandwiches and a patter of BS
to go along with it! Many thanks!
Surprise, N8KXM sold his projection TV! He also took the first step and purchased a Peet Brothers weather station.
WA5ZAI was very pleased to be able to pick up a Drake MN-2700 tuner for a friend of his in Texas!
W3TOM picked up a set of "rocket launcher" field day 50' tower that N5AAA is considering for use at his QTH as well.
Hey Tom, did the State Highway Patrol pull you over to ask questions?
N0BIX picked up his latest copy of the Repeater Directory and Hoss started a new tradition picking up an N connector rather than the
typical PL-259 that has been his hamfest tradition for so many years.
Many thanks to N7LMJ and KF8KK for doing my shopping since it so hard for me to get out of the booth!
We were blessed by being able to see so many different IOOK'ers from all over! It was a special treat to see Luis, XE1L Friday afternoon!
N8KXM was glad that XE1L purchased Sandi's cell phone. Such a deal I have for you!
Now that cell phone will habla espanol!
It was great seeing N8ADN's son Joe learning the ropes about selling in the flea market and Carol joining the cigar smoker's in the booth!
It was also great seeing KF8KK go into "boat anchor" mode Sunday! He also made a number of very "ducky" presentations at the "Gathering"
:-)
Best wishes to the newly organized IOOK "one" club. See Charlie, NN3V for applications for membership.
Isn't medical technology amazing?
Congratulations to N0BIX and N5AAA for upgrading to Extra and keeping it a secret most of the weekend!
Congratulations to WD8CJD for winning 4th prize! After the convoy had left the flea market we received a radio call from K8RBM (a high school
chum of mine) who was working the late shift in communications at the arena.
He told us about her winning a major prize. I gave Charlie, NN3V, the ticket stubbs and he drove back to the arena and picked up
the new Icom IC-746PRO! Marian says it will be OK for me to use it. :-)
Incredible! We believe that it is the biggest prize anyone in our group has been fortunate enough to win!
Now, there are three attachments to this epistle. The first two are JPG's showing some of the hamfest fun.
You should be able to set your printer up for landscape and print them (8x10.5). In the past these
have featured how the IOOK travels on it's stomach, so, I decided to go a different route this year.
If you took snap shots, please send me copies for the archives.
The third attachment is another IOOK order form. A number of you requested a chance to order IOOK wear after the fest so here it is.
Since I have no idea what it will cost to mail the stuff to you, I will include that with the order when I send it out.
This is in Word 97 format.
Finally, thank you one and all for the nice hanging basket regarding my cataract surgery Monday morning!
The post surgery session went well and the doctor is very pleased with my healing already!
I plan to schedule the left eye surgery as soon as I can. Man, this is GREAT!
Basically 20/20 distance vision. Of course, I will need cheaters for reading, but that is to be expected.
As I said earlier, medical technology is truly a wonderful thing!
I am honored to have each and every one of you as my friend! Best 73,
Keith, WA8ZWJ
Vice President IOOK and Flea Market Chairman

Thanks N0BIXie!
