The first Gathering of the Faithful was organized by Chuck Hodell, N8ADN and Keith Farley, WA8ZWJ and was held on the Friday night of HamVention, 1982. It was held at Chuck's home in Union, Ohio. It was comprised of a group of Hams who had all developed friendships through Hoss Karimi, WA5ZAI through his numerous trips and locations where he was stationed over the years and who were keeping in touch on a weekly basis on HF and/or VHF. We were fortunate in that the weather cooperated pretty well with us (shirt sleeves in April) and most of the gang spent a lot of time on the patio out back. It was a pretty informal get together but we had a good time so we decided to try it again the following year. I know it is hard to believe, but here are a couple of snap shots of the very first Gathering!

Man, do these guys look young or what? Notice - each guy has a beer in hand! Now, those were the days!

Addendum!

These pictures from HamVention 1982 were recently found amongst some old slides. The quality of some are not great due to some exposure to water and humidity for an extreme period of time. Attempts to clean the slides have been very poor. So, I consider them better than nothing.
