K7DRM, NN3V, Bruce - W6RBM
WA8ZWJ, WA5FLT, AI0OK

KK6CTG, KK6CTF

An early look at things after they are set up Saturday
morning.

You may wonder why we don't have a lot of photos with lots of people in them. The reason is because when there are lots of folks around we are busy and don't have time to take snap shots.
Preparing for the high altitude balloon launch.

Hmm, what Ron is relating must be really deep...or so long
ago he is having trouble remembering! :-)

So, another Yuma Hamfest has come to an end.
You may have noticed that Ti-Michelle - NJ6T was not in any Saturday photos. That is because she woke up with a sciatic nerve problem and she stayed away from the hamfest. We hope she is feeling better. Many thanks to Ti for playing as IOOK hostess!
We had a GREAT time! It was wonderful seeing all the gang that attended!
Keith is pleased to report that sales went well!
He had two large cardboard boxes he threw away and a tub that was full when it left Dayton that is going home empty! Yee haw!
Many thanks to the Yuma Hamfest and ALL their volunteers who make this a great event to attend!
Also, thanks to all the IOOK'ers who attended for making this a very memorable event.
As you have seen, the weather was truly INCREDIBLE!
What a GREAT time!
It is time for a short celebration!

Keith was up early and working on photos for this web
page...

"Oh, hi Joe!"

"It's time to go to breakfast, man!"

Our last shot at IHOP...
Ron, JoAnne and Joe

Dave, Charlie and Keith

Keith spent the day working on photos. Joe and Dave spent the day in R&R mode.
We headed to dinner at Tacos Mi Rancho!

There we met BJ and Jack! They had spent the day
finishing up after hamfest details for the club.

Dave, BJ and Jack
Many thanks to BJ and Jack for making time for us to spend some special time together! We know it has been a VERY busy week for you guys! THANK YOU!
Keith and Joe

Jack decided we needed a view of the back of BJ and Dave in
addition to a second shot of Keith and Joe.

Keith worked on photos until bedtime. The others resumed R&R activities!
Yep, not many photos were taken today!
This just in from Rick - KK8O!
Attached is the picture of IOOK at the Mid-Winter Hamfest in Mansfield 2/16/2014.

Monday morning we were on the road by 6AM. Here's a
shot Joe took of the moon before we left.

We are heading east and the sun is preparing to rise...

Saguaro cactus along our way towards Tucson...

Joe must have been feeling patriotic today!

"On the road again!"

Interesting reflectors on the road. In the rear view
mirror they show up as red showing if you are going this way you are going the
wrong way!

Keith took a shot of this mountain range out the left
side...

Joe took a picture of Keith taking a picture...

Keith is chatting with Jim - AE8R on the radio as we
approach Tucson.

Nice weather...again!

More interesting scenery...

We are making progress east!

Before too long we are approaching El Paso. Here are
the stockyards just west of El Paso.

El Paso is behind us and we are now in western Texas...

Yucca cactus...

Interesting cloud formation...

We are just about to lose an hour as we continue east!

We made it to Fort Stockton! We checked into the
motel and headed to dinner at K-BOB's!

=====
Tuesday, February 18, 2014
We were on the road by about 5:30 Tuesday morning. We
stopped in Menard, Texas for breakfast!

One funny fact is Joe ordered and ate two breakfasts!

They have great food and service here!

Neat old gas pump on display...

Partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures as we head
towards Valley Mills, Texas.

Once we arrive at Hoss and Margareth's Joe downloads the
pictures off his memory card from the last couple of days.

Before too long, Joe heads towards Calumet, Oklahoma!
B C N U Joe!

Here are the flowers Hoss bought for Margareth for
Valentine's Day!

There were so many flowers in the vase that she had to separate some into
another vase so she could add water!
Trooper is just TOO comfortable! Margareth is
tolerating him! :-)

Annie is there too!

This photo of the bowling alley in Beulah, Michigan near Keith and his brother's cottage in Michigan just arrived!
According to the info, this happened this morning.

Yes, the roof collapsed from the weight of the snow!
At this point in time they are within 15 inches of breaking the record for snowfall in a season.
=====
Wednesday, February 19, 2014
Kind of reminds you of the Lazy K Ranch, eh? This is
from Keith's walk Wednesday morning.

These cactus plants and old hand plow are from a display
across the road from Hoss and Margareth's.

Taking an afternoon cigar break...

Dinner this evening as at the Bunkhouse BBQ. Here are
Ron and JoAnne!

Hoss and Margareth...

This will probably be Keith's last visit this trip to the
Bunkhouse BBQ! :-(

Thursday, February 20, 2014
It was in the 60's this morning but very windy. Keith and Trooper walked around the driveway area for about an hour.
Margareth was out VERY early headed to the casino for the day so Hoss, Trooper and Keith had the day to ourselves.
After Keith's walk he decided to get started on the project that he and Ron - AA5RT were going to tackle today.
This is a BEFORE shot.

This was intended to be an "in progress"
shot. However, Ron got called and had to work today, so, he will have to
finish the task at a later date. The idea was to set up the spare radio on
the left on 40 Meters. The one on the right is set up on 20 Meters.
The reason for this was to make it easier for Hoss to switch between 20 Meters
and 40 Meters. So, that will happen at a later date. :-(

Hoss and Keith headed out for breakfast. It was Hoss's idea. However, the place we went first had closed their restaurant. All they have now is a small coffee shop.
This very funny sign was near the entry door for the
entrance to the coffee shop.

We ended up at Johnny's Place a few blocks from the other
place.

This interesting craft item was in a picture frame at
Johnny's Place.

Later, Keith and Trooper are outside enjoying the sunshine
and 77 degrees!

This shot was taken in the back corner of the lot here looking towards the
back of the garage.
This is one end of Hoss's multiband dipole.

So, his primary HF antenna is the beam. It does 40
through 10.

Dinner this evening was in McGregor, Texas at the Coffee
Shop!

After dinner here are Hoss and Trooper visiting!

Tomorrow morning Keith heads towards Oklahoma!
Many many thanks to Hoss and Margareth for their wonderful HOSSpitality! It has been a WONDERFUL visit!
=====
Friday, February 21, 2014
Trooper relaxing on Margareth again!

Keith prepares to leave...here's Hoss and Keith...

After Keith crossed the state line into Oklahoma here comes
the casino where Margareth spent the day yesterday...

We are going to eat at the Cattlemen's Steakhouse

After lunch Stand and Keith meet Jim - W5JCS at the
Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial

Stan will be our personal guide for the tour...

You will learn more about these chairs later...

Reflecting pool...

The survivor tree...

"Survivor Tree"
This 90+ year old American Elm survived the brunt of the
blast from the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, it's bark
imbedded with glass and debris. It stands today as a testament to the
spirit and resilience of Oklahomans and to a nation who will never forget.

Stan and Jim

This building now houses the Memorial Museum - This side was
left like this on purpose. Read below...

The Museum tour follows a time line reference throughout
the building. Stan enhanced numerous items along the way...

Stan was the Incident Commander...

This rear axle was the first key to the authorities
figuring out who rented the truck...it was found about 2 blocks away from the

Saturday's breakfast was at Granny's Kitchen...

Here's our waitress, the owner and Jim!

Afterwards, we went to the coffee shop where Jim's Coffee
Club group meets each Saturday.

Then we replaced a burned out headlight on Keith's van.

Here's Ken - K5KC's ham tower setup just outside
Stillwater...The four verticals in front are called a Four Square.

Yes, the tower and beams rotate...

Jim catches a shot of Keith as we prepare to head back to
town...

We stopped by Jim's and his sister, Melinda had arrived
from the Tulsa area...

Then we went to the Civil War Re-Enactment near Yale,
Oklahoma...

Man! Those cannons are really loud!

The battle ensues...riflemen in the foreground and cannon
in the background...

On the left under the tree the one side surrenders to the
other after about 40 minutes of battle. This 40 minute battle was a
shortened version from the original 2 day battle. This was a really neat thing to
see!

This is called a Mountain Howitzer because a couple of men
could haul it up the hill and fire it from higher ground.

According to the gentleman we talked with, this cannon had
a range of up to one and a half miles!

portable wash basin

tunes...

period costumes...

Time to head to pizza dinner at the Hideaway!

The time simply flew by! It was great seeing the Oklahoma gang!
Keith heads towards the Hughes' Farms near Nevada,
Missouri!

This is Bob and Sue's place from the back....

Here's Lincoln and Trin's place from the back...

Dinner this evening was in Nevada at the Iguana Azul!
Great Mexican food!

Monday, February 24, 2014
Monday was run errand and do odd jobs day. One of the
chores Keith did today was have the oil changed in the van.

This yard display is across from Bob and Sue's.

This yard display is across from Bob and Sue's.

This is at Bob and Sue's

Lincoln's wife, Trin stopped by so we had a nice short
visit.

Here's a new fire pit at Bob and Sue's.

We decided to have lunch at the 54 Cafe in Nevada,
MO. Who did we run into? Trin and Lincoln! So, we joined them!

We got to play a bit of Cribbage in the afternoon.

You can see there is no fun being had here!

This is Trenton, one of Bob's grandsons.

Later Trin, Caleb and Cael stopped by to join us for
dinner.

L to R - Caleb, Trin and Cael
Lincoln came a bit later. Never did see Cody.

Another full day in southwest Missouri!
=====
Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Even though it was a bit cold this morning Keith took a few
farm shots around Bob's place.

This is an irrigation system they were working on last
year.

Combine...

100 row drill...(a drill is a kind of planter for you non
farm folks)

Then we headed to Springfield, MO.
We stopped so Bob could order a part for a piece of
equipment. We had hopes of picking it up, but, they were out of stock.

We failed to ask what kind of device this is. But, it
certainly looks interesting!

From there we went to Lambert's Cafe, Home Of The Hand
Throwed Rolls!

Bob and Keith both caught their rolls, no problem!
Here, Bob is having sorghum put on his roll...

fried okra in the foreground...mmm mmm good!
In addition to our dinners, rolls and fried okra, we also had fried potatoes with onions, fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes and some more fried okra. :-)
Here are a couple of outboard motors on display at
Lambert's.

Then we went next door to sample some cheese!

From there we went south to Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge.

Bob wanted to show this area to Keith. Bob and Sue had spent Super Bowl Weekend here recently!
In the foreground you see one of the many places where you
had to ford the stream...the hotel is in the background...

Another look at the hotel...

Here's part of the lodge...

Horse carriage ride anyone?

Large Mouthed Bass - large enough you can stand inside the
mouth!

If you look carefully, you can see some of the rental
cabins there...

Neat covered bridge beside the swinging bridge...

This old buzzard has horns! Looks like the devil to
me!

After leaving the Big Cedar area, we headed back to Springfield towards the Bass Pro Shop!

Upon our arrival at the Bass Pro Shop this crane was
erecting this tower arrangement. We believe the next time we see it, it
will have a large sign on top!

They have added a neat fish display on the ceiling in the
entry area near the cash registers that makes it look like you are on the bottom
of the water looking up.

One of the many static stuffed animal displays...

This is only a small sample of some of the fishing rods on
display!

Some live gaters!

After leaving Springfield, we headed towards Sedalia, MO.
After checking into our motel, we headed to dinner for
seafood! Yes, it has started to snow! UGH!

This place is GREAT! Bob had oysters and Keith had catfish!
Delightful!

Back at the motel after dinner. It is still
snowing. Welcome back to winter! double UGH!

Keith and Bob played some cribbage after dinner and had a
celebratory Scotch!

The reason for the overnight stay in Sedalia is because Bob has a meeting to attend here in this motel tomorrow morning.
=====
Wednesday, February 26, 2014
Here's a little better look at the snow we got last night.

After our complimentary breakfast buffet at the hotel, we
played a bit of cribbage...

Bob's meeting was with MFA Oil. One interesting item that Keith picked up on in the meeting, was that they add wax to diesel fuel. This actually improves the horsepower rating. The catch is, when the fuel gets cold, this slows down the fuel and can clog filters and nozzles. The meeting was followed by a complimentary lunch buffet.
After the meeting and lunch we went back to Bob's.
Here they are trying to empty out this grain bin but the
motor is not cooperating. Fiddling with the motor to get it to run.
Something seemed to be sticking.

Ah, now it is going!

Moving the grain to a semi so it can be taken to town and
sold.

Hired hand, Lincoln and Bob....no, it's not snowing - that
is dust from the grain!

Here's another nice yard display at Bob's with an American
flag in front of the house.

All three meals today were buffets! Bob, Sue and Keith ate dinner at the Chinese buffet in Nevada.
After dinner, Trenton and Cody stopped in. They had finished their
after school chores for the day and cleaned up some of Grandma and Grandpa's
left overs!

Lara is finally feeling better. She and the kids had
been down sick for a couple of days. Here are Catherine, Lara and Landon.

Lara had stopped by to pick up Trenton and take him home.
=====
Thursday, February 27, 2014
Keith left Bob and Sue's about 6AM Thursday morning. Even though it was cold, it was a beautiful day!
Many thanks to Bob and Sue for their gracious HOSSpitality!
Keith was reminded of Randy Fisher - KL7RF when he saw the
RF on the back of this trailer.

Approaching St. Louis....Here's the first glimpse of the
arch...

Getting closer...

This is about as close as we will get!

Keith met Bob - N0BIX and Jean in western Illinois near
I-70 for lunch at Ruby Tuesday. Here's Bob.

This has become an annual stop for Keith and Bob so they can exchange photos and gab a bit.
Here's Jean!

Here's a shot Bob took while Keith was copying photos on
his laptop...

Our waiter took a group photo for us! Keith, Bob and
Jean.

Here's our group photo the waiter took with Bob's camera...think Jean was
tickled!

Here's the "Welcome To Ohio" icon near the
border...

Keith picked up Marian - WD8CJD and went to a nice Mexican dinner!
Marian - WD8CJD - Yep! It's cold! About 15
degrees and windy! What a difference from Yuma!

It has been a wonderful trip! Many thanks to all who contributed in making it such a fun time.
The photo contributors were: N0BIX, WA5FLT, W5JCS, W6RBM, NJ6T & WA8ZWJ Did I miss anyone?
According to my records, there were 1,423 original photos so, yes, about 797 ended up on the cutting room floor!
A total of 5,773.2 miles were driven by Keith.
If you see any additions, corrections or deletions that should be made, please let me know ASAP.
A sincere THANK YOU to Mike - N7LMJ who provides the IOOK with the space for our incredible web site.
Thank you to Marian - WD8CJD for being so understanding and not giving me a hard time over all the traveling I do without her company!
Many thanks to you for having the intestinal fortitude to sort through all these pictures and comments and make it all the way to the end.
=====
Here it is, Friday, February 28th. I have spent the day unloading the van, doing laundry, running errands, doing laundry and working on photos for the web page.
It is good to be back home and it is hard to believe that this month of fun and travel have come and gone.
Respectfully submitted,
Keith, WA8ZWJ
THAT'S ALL THERE IS - NO MORE TO COME!
