WA5FLT's Repeater

posted 4/2/07

Recently Joseph, WA5FLT, Neal, N5KCO and Hal, KB5MRV put up a new antenna for the repeater.  In Joseph's words:

"The KD5YUL (Wheatstraw ARC Call) is located 8 1/2 Miles West of Calumet, OK on Hwy 270.  To the North about 1/2 Mile is the notorious Coyote Hill.  The repeater operates in the two meter band on 146.610 - 146.010 MHz.  It is an open machine and everyone is welcome and encouraged to rag chew.

At present we are using a Maggiore Electronic Laboratory Hi Pro system.  (ev1 transmitter, R4V receiver, and RC-1000 controller)  We have 24 watts out of the xmitter, 5watts loss thru the Phelps Dodge Model 497 duplexer, 11 watts loss in the 300' of 1/2" heliax, giving us 8 watts into a DB-224-E antenna.

We have plans to upgrade from the 1/2' heliax to about 70' of 7/8' heliax when we complete the construction of our building to house the equipment at the base of the elevator.  We are currently using a storage building several feet from the elevator."

"The National Weather Service and the County Emergency Management has been invited to make use of the machine."

"We have also acquired solar panels and hope to be on solar power in the future.  Other plans include expanding to other bands at this site."

Thanks to Joseph for this pictorial update of the Calumet, Oklahoma's IOOK sister machine!  The repeater ought to work pretty well.  Don't they have any hills in Oklahoma?
