WB8NSL's Trip To HamVention 2006

posted 5/24/06

Dear IOOK,  It seems at any time there is the "lingo" of the day.  We even use the trendy word "paradigm" these days.  You have all heard the youngsters these days use "dude".  In my younger days the "hip" folks who were "with it" were "cool cats".  Even as I tried to pack for my trip to HamVention, there was the pictured "feline effect" as my dear Old Jack wanted to tag along.  You will notice this in the attached photo.

As usual we had folks visit the IOOK Technology booth from "all over" so to speak.  The guy, "Lune", in his spacesuit "dropped in" from somewhere to visit us for a little while.  I think he wanted us to place emphasis on the last letter of his name "e", but I was rather thinking of another completely different spelling.  You know what I mean.

Tom, WA5KUB, created quite a sensation with his "miniature marshmallow shooter".  Tom, in the white shirt, surely brings a lot of fun to the flea market each year with each of his "inventions".  The marshmallows were powered to a tremendous velocity with a puff of air.  Funny, there seemed to be plenty of "hot air" around the premises.

Charlie, NN3V, with the cigar, put a new effect to the marshmallow assault rifle with  the addition of true smoke with each round.  This special effect was simply amazing.

Loyd, K8EI, seems to just have ran out of "gas" as he is "conked out" with his "shade pulled down".  Sort of like "Christmas afternoon" as we remembered as kids.  Knowing Loyd personally makes me understand why this really nice fellow spells his name with only one "L".  With his pleasant smile and great sense of humor of the IOOK tradition, he is surely one "L" of a nice guy!

So, you can see that with my short epistle, I am telling you there are some "really interesting cats" in the IOOK.  Seems a grand time was had by all present.

Sincerely, Charlie D.  WB8NSL
