NN3V's June, 2004 Fishing Trip

Well, now that FD is over, I have some time to get caught up.

The week preceding FD I went on a long range fishing trip on the MV Royal Star.  It was a "long haul" trip. 8 days, sailing out of San Diego to a spot 480 miles south of San Diego, and some 135 miles west of the Baja California (Mexico) coast.  In a depth of some 3,000 feet, there are the remnants of a volcano that blew up eons ago, now called "Los Alijos".  It forms a sea mount at some 500 feet, that is about 3 miles square, and is a haven for large Blue Fin, Yellow Fin, Yellowtail, Wahoo (also known as Ono), and Albacore tuna.

We had a F A N T A S T I C fishing venture.  25 anglers, literally pampered with five 5 star meals a day.  The weather could not have been better if we had ordered it that way.  The 25 anglers were incredibly well suited for the trip, as everyone knew everyone on the first day out, and there were no "prima donnas" as frequently found on long trips.

And the haul?  The pictures speak for themselves.  My catch was 5 albacore, 4 Yellowtail, and 1 Blue Fin.  Total weight I caught was 450 lbs.  You will taste the sushi here on Monday.  The pictures show pretty much what the file name indicates.  The file titled friends playing is a picture of porpoises riding the bow wave of the boat.
