Reporting for the Oklahoma Chapter of the IOOK, Jim, W5JCS files this brush with well known author, John Grisham!
According to Jim, "Recently, John Grisham popular fiction author invited Micheal Salem (N5MS) to a small private dinner honoring those who assisted him with his latest book, The Innocent Man. Grisham did research for the book, which is his first non-fiction work, in Mike's law office in Norman, Oklahoma. The case which the book deals with is from a small town about an hour east of Norman. Grisham is very bright, warm and outgoing. Grisham wanted to thank those who assisted him, the victims of the tragic story in the book, their families and the judge that turned the case around and saved a mans life. Those in the small group of invited guest attending had a wonderful time. Following the dinner Grisham flew to London for 48 hours to promote the new book's release in Great Britain and appear on several TV programs then flew back to the US where he appeared on the NBC Today Show and ABC's Good Morning America."
Daphne Durham, writing an Editorial review says, "John Grisham tackles nonfiction for the first time with The Innocent Man, a true tale about murder and injustice in a small town (that reads like one of his own bestselling novels). The Innocent Man chronicles the story of Ron Williamson, how he was arrested and charged with a crime he did not commit, how his case was (miss)handled and how an innocent man was sent to death row. Grisham's first work of nonfiction is shocking, disturbing, and enthralling--a must read for fiction and nonfiction fans. We had the opportunity to talk with John Grisham about the case and the book."
IOOK'ers Roger Ryan, WA5JXX and Jim Shideler, W5JCS assisted with the dinner.
