N8KXM Is Back On The Air

posted 12/12/07

About a month ago, Lou, N8KXM, began working in earnest to get back on the air after moving into their new home.  First, he had to figure out a way to route the wires from the ham shack to the basement and outside.  In Lou's own words:

"Howdy, I thought you might like to know the hole has been cut and it is in the perfect place as the pictures show!  Sandi recorded the event as it happened. (and she makes fun of you).  Maybe we can get together next week and get a few wires pulled."

Well, "next week" did not occur until today.  Below you can see "Cutting the hole" - "The moment of truth - were my measurements correct?" - "The Perfect Spot" - "Wires run to the basement here" - "Wires Go This Way To The Shack"

Today's first activity was to get the temporary support up for the G5RV antenna.  Top left below you see Sammy visiting with the neighbor's burro.  Top right is the top of the support mast.  Middle left the support mast is in place.  Middle right one of the wire supports goes to the gutter of the house (the other wire support went to the fence in the back corner of the yard).  Finally you get a good view of the G5RV in it's full erection. Lou was assisted by Charlie, WB8NSL and Keith, WA8ZWJ.

Once inside, it was time to fish the wires to the basement and to the ham shack.

Once the wires were fished into the proper places, we had to go back outside and connect the coax to the G5RV.

Then we returned inside to hook up the station.  Since the desk and credenza are new to Lou, holes had to be drilled to be able to pass the wires in and out of the back of the cabinet.

All is hooked up in the proper order and everything seems to work properly!  Yee haw!  Lou hopes to check into the net tonight for the first time since the tower came down prior to the move several months ago!

Best 73 to all!
