Last week Lou, N8KXM got a new radio for his birthday! It is an Icom 7000 with the optional antenna tuner. He had already done a temporary installation in the pickup truck but needed some finishing touches to tidy up the job.
Today Keith, WA8ZWJ was able to assist him and snap a few shots as well! In the panel below you can see the template we used to manufacture the mounting plate. Then you can see the control head after it was mounted. He had preprogrammed the rig and you can see that one of the optional displays shows that he is currently on the ZWJ-Repeater. He is currently using a Hustler mount set up for HF but hopes to add a screwdriver during HamVention. He was not satisfied with the DC hookup he had made during the temporary installation, so we rewired the DC cables to the new rig. In the last shot at the bottom you can see the radio and tuner located on the floor behind the driver's seat. He has plans to mount the rig and antenna tuner to a plate for improved air flow and to make removing the rig on a temporary basis easier.

Below you can see the dual band antenna installation on the hood. This was used for the old dual band rig that has been replaced. Top right below Lou is in the process of hiding the wiring going to the rig behind the seat. Finally, Lou is sporting a new boo boo on his forehead where it managed to come into sudden contact with the air spoiler on the hood as he shows his satisfaction in his new rig and installation!

Best wishes to Lou on his new rig!
