WA5KUB's New Vertical Antenna

7/11/04

Tom has erected a new "stealth" vertical antenna.  It is very much like the fan dipoles that many hams use except it is in a vertical format.  It is a multi band antenna using a single feed line.

According to Tom "Well I finished the new antenna project today.  It is a vertical antenna that covers all bands 40-12 meters.   Just below it I put in ground rods and buried radials.  There are 5 vertical radiating elements all tuned to resonance and fed by single coax.  It actually performs very well.

I have attached some pictures.  This thing is pretty stealth.   In one picture you can see a close up of the ground end.   Radials, ground rod, and the coax where it is attached.  Then in another picture you can see the first few feet of the antenna which is constructed with a “cross type” spacer which holds the elements apart.  I have 4 spacers distributed up the antenna.   Another picture shows the antenna (well maybe you cant see it) you will have to look just to the right of the tree and follow up the base of the antenna.  You will see some of it if you look at the brick in the fence. (the antenna is in front of that brick)

The wire and spacers are black with green paint spotted on it to give it the stealth look."

My apologies to Tom for being so long  in getting this posted.  I missed copying the stuff when I went to Michigan.

Congratulations Tom!  Best 73, Keith, WA8ZWJ
