KJ6RA's Tower Work

10/26/03

Both rebar mats are installed and the vertical rebar members have been
welded in. Just have to finish a few cross pieces tomorrow and give the
building inspector a call on Monday morning. Should be pouring concrete
no later than Wednesday I hope. I know I will be glad to have this part
of the project behind me!!

A big thank you to Paul KF6QPG and Rick KE6MZR who helped me get the top
rebar in and welded all together.

We poured 15 yards of concrete today. We did not have two buckets extra,
so I guess we did the math good....or just lucky.

As some of you know, this project is over a year in the making so I am
very pleased with the results, now we have to go throw the tarp over it
as it is suppose to cool off drastically tomorrow.  Should start
assembling the antenna in about 3-4 weeks after the concrete has cured
nicely.

A special thanks go to my helpers Rick KE6MZR and Francis KF6VYM and
the other one just watched, I included his picture.

The tower is a Rohn 65, It will be 54 feet above the concrete, although
the base will support way more tower, it's all I have at the moment. I
can actually go to 75 feet high before I would need a variance. I hope
to find at least another section in the future, but we'll do with what
we have. Initially, I am just going to put my KT34A tri-bander back up
along with a KLM 5 element 6M beam for now, but hope to purchase a
bigger antenna next summer. Just haven't been able to make my mind up as
to which one.

Well after a year and half or so the tower is finally in the air. We
managed to get 44 feet of tower erected today. It started out as a nice
blue sky day and no wind, so we took advantage of the break in the
weather despite having snowed about 2 inches last night. There is one
more section to raise and then the mast and hopefully that will get done
tomorrow.

Sure am glad to have got this far.

Well we did get the last section up on Monday afternoon.  The building inspector is coming this Monday to hopefully sign off the project and I ordered my rotator last week. So, if all goes as planned MAYBE over the
CHRISTMAS/New Years break (notice I didn't say winter) I will get things up.

Here is the temporary setup on the beam. We still are waiting for the permanent rotator to arrive.  Rich, KJ6RA

More to come!
