Most Worshipful Brother Loyd E. Davis

Loyd E. Davis

Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Utah 2009

Most Worshipful Loyd Evan Davis was born on April 10, 1939 in Newark, Ohio.  He was the first of two sons born to Paul and Eleanor Davis.  Loyd was educated in the Newark school system, graduating from Newark Senior High School in 1957.  He attended Northwestern University for two years and then enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1959.  In his 20 year career in communications he spent nine years as a full time student receiving both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University as well as graduating from the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.  Since his retirement in October 1979, Loyd has continued his communications career in the defense industry.  He is currently the Director of Marketing Communications at L-3 Communication Systems – West in Salt Lake City, Utah.

MWB Davis petitioned his father’s lodge, Lafayette Lodge No. 81 in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 14, 1972.  Since he was stationed in Virginia at the time, it took a few months to contact his references and recommenders before he was elected to receive the degrees on October 10, 1972.  Correspondence between the Grand Lodge of Ohio and the Grand Lodge of Virginia resulted in a letter from Occoquan Lodge No. 310 in Woodbridge, Virginia, to appear for initiation on January 15, 1973.  He was subsequently passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on March 26, 1973, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on June 21, 1973.  He affiliated with Occoquan Lodge on November 12, 1973.  He is now a life member of these two lodges.  He received the Master of the Royal Secret Degree on October 27, 1973 in Alexandria, Virginia and was initiated into the Ancient Arabic Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in a hot sands ceremony at Kena Temple in Fairfax, Virginia on November 17, 1973.

MWB Davis began his association with Utah Masonry in 1997 when he affiliated with Bonneville Lodge No. 31 on May 5th.  He was elected Secretary in 1999, Senior Warden in 2001, and Worshipful Master in 2002.  He then returned to the job of Secretary which he held until 2008.  Additionally, he served as Secretary of the Bountiful Masonic Temple Association from 1999 to 2008.  Loyd was appointed as Junior Grand Steward by MW Robert K. McKenzie in 2003, served as Grand Chaplain in 2004, Grand Orator in 2005, and was elected as Junior Grand Warden in 2006.  He also served on the Grand Lodge Education Committee from 2003 – 2009.  He was installed as the 134th Grand Master of Masons in Utah on January 31, 2009.

A. O. N. M. S. in 2005 and served as Chaplain in 2006 and 2008.

MWB Loyd is married to the former Judith Lambert.  They have three children; Mark, Scott, and James; and six grandchildren; Aaron, Samantha, Christina, Britney, Colin, and Abigail.  His life-long hobby has been amateur radio which provided the inspiration for the central feature of his Grand Master’s pin, the radio tower.
