Surfin': Practically at the Huntsville Hamfest

This week, attend the hamfest in Huntsville, Alabama by way of the Internet.

Back in May, I wrote about virtually attending the Dayton Hamvention via the Internet. Tom Medlin, WA5KUB, provided live video to, from and at the Hamvention, and he promised to provide live video this weekend to, from and at the Huntsville, Alabama Hamfest.

WA5KUB.COM provides live video to, from and at the big hamfest in Huntsville, Alabama.

Tom writes, "As many of you are aware, this is a great way to take part in a great ham radio experience even if you can not attend. Watch the live video and chat with other hams across the US and even the world. Hams in over 152 countries viewed our last broadcast. The web site is WA5KUB.COM.

"We will be broadcasting from the hamfest all day on Saturday Aug 19 and again on Sunday Aug 20 until closing at 2 PM. At times, the camera may be in a fixed location showing the entire flea market, but at other times, we will be wearing the 'Helmet Cam,' and you will actually be walking around with us and visiting all the exhibitors."

During the Dayton broadcast, I monitored Tom's video a lot. It is an addictive avocation, and I probably will get hooked again and spend this weekend in Huntsville.

By the way, Tom's set-up is a two-way street. In addition to watching and listening to the goings-on at the hamfest, you can participate in a live chat with Tom and the gang.

Until next time, keep on surfin'.

Editor's note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, writes Surfin' practically every week. To discuss hamfests, virtual or otherwise, as well as other neat things, e-mail Stan or add comments to his blog.
