posted 11/20/12

Here is a copy of one of the flyers from the Fort Wayne Hamfest for 2012

Notice how closely their flyer color is to IOOK Blue?

Here is a sampling of the tickets from the hamfest...

Friday, November 16th

Tom - W3TOM and Debbie - KA3VNF arrived at the Farley Flophouse on Thursday afternoon.  WA8ZWJ, WD8CJD, W3TOM and KA3VNF went to dinner together Thursday evening.  Friday morning W3TOM, KA3VNF and WA8ZWJ ran some errands.

We decided to stop for lunch on the way to Fort Wayne at Farmer Brown's!  We were very happy that Lou - N8KXM and Sandi could join us for lunch!

Then we met up with Bob - N0BIX and Jean.

The three guys headed to the hamfest to unload the hamfest goodies.  Here are Tom and Keith getting ready for the early flea market shot.

Here's another...

Flat KBob (El Presidente) joined us for our group shot behind the table!

L to R = W3TOM, Flat KG7SB, N0BIX and WA8ZWJ

When we got back to the hotel, we all met in the lobby for a visit fest!

Then the group was joined by Jean...

Debbie decided to go up to the balcony to get an overhead shot of the group!

Here's her shot!

Here's Keith taking a shot of Debbie on the balcony...

Here's Debbie on the balcony...

N0BIXie was not to be outdone!  So, he went upstairs and took a group shot too!

Here's Bob after he took his balcony shot!

Of course, since N0BIXie took the group photo he was not in it so here's a photo of Bob at dinner!

We continued our visit during dinner.  What a great meal and a lot of fun too!

Saturday, November 17th

The early morning breakfast group.  John has checked in and has gone to their room to drop off stuff.

N0BIX finally sat down!

The early group is off to the hamfest!

Here's Audrey - KC8DTM!

She and Glenn - W8AK have the table next to ours!

Glenn - W8AK and the guys are setting up their table.

John - W9KD

This is a construction project that is part of an estate sale that WA8ZWJ is helping to move.

Yes, that is a 4-1000!

Glenn is set up and ready to sell!

Tom is talking with a guy about the partially completed amplifier.

And with that, the amplifier is gone!  Yee haw!  Another big item for the estate has left the table!

Back at the motel, Marian has finished her morning swim and joined the breakfast group.

Dave - W8TVC, Medium Al - KB8FJB and Bob - N0BIX had arrived!

Keith - WA8ZWJ behind our table!

Medium Al - KB8FJB, Keith - WA8ZWJ, Gary - WB9DIA and Dave - W8TVC

The IOOK - Yesterday's Technology.....Tomorrow!

The Fort Wayne Hamfest Banner!

Jim - KA8SFL has arrived!

And so has Lou - N8KXM!

As you look behind John and John you see the crowd is picking up!

Hey mister!  What cha got there that I can't live without?

CQ Fort Wayne Hamfest de N5AAA!

The guy wants to offer me how much?  No way!  I can't go that low!

Wynn - W6CDR

Bill - N8TQ

Bill tells us that Rick - KK8O will not be making the hamfest.  Seems he promised to help out with a project without consulting his calendar and double booked with the hamfest!  Pretty poor planning Rick!

Al, Dave and Jim shopping on the row behind us!

Randy - KA0AZS

Ron - K9ID

Stinky Badge!

John - N5AAA has had a leaky battery in his pickup truck and made arrangements with Jim - KA8SFL (alias The Battery Dude) to bring a replacement.

Jim says "Yep!  That looks just like the battery I have brought for you!"

Bad battery!

Let's take the bad one out!

The leaky battery goes into a protective bag and Jim takes it back to the shop.

Getting the new battery installed...

I love it when a plan comes together!

Final touches on installing the new battery!  Yee haw!

Back inside, Tom is telling a whopper!

The punch line cometh!

WB0W's banner!

Gaylen - WB0W!  A dear friend of the IOOK!

Hmm, think Tom is telling another whopper!

John catches 40 winks!  Short night last night!

Time to head back to the motel!

Medium Al has had his nap and now is using the treadmill!  His is getting twice the exercise because he is coming and going at the same time!

Pre dinner visiting...

And we are off to dinner!

After a quick walk across the parking lot, our orders have been placed and more visit time!

Dinner is over and we head back across the parking lot to take out group photo.

John snaps a shot of the photo crew!

Jean catches Bob and Keith setting up tripods...

Here's our Group Photo!

Keith to Bob after the fact "Dang your hide!  Everyone else is standing between someone in front but you had to crowd in on Jean and squeeze in on her!  You are a low life scum bag!  This is where she needs to use the bat!"  Bob says "Sorry about that.  I wasn't paying attention to your choreography.  What bat?"  Keith says "Stand by!"

N0BIX's version of the group photo...

Keith to Jean "A while back Bob and I were on Skype.  He made some kind of comment to you that was out-of-line and I asked you if you had a bat and you said "No!"  So here is a bat for you to use at times like that!"

Go Jean!  Go Jean!  Go Jean!

No, the head is probably where he would least feel the pain!  Hit him where it will hurt!

Bob to Jean "Just where do you plan on keeping that bat?

Jean's response "Handy!"

Here is where Jean has stored the bat for handy access!

As you can see, no fun was had at the Fort Wayne Hamfest!  ;-)

Sunday, November 18th

Sunday morning early birds at the hamfest!

Glenn did not intend to return on Sunday so we got the use of his table as well as his neighbor's table plus we were told we could use one of the tables behind us as well!

Our expanded booth!

N0BIX asked N5AAA to pick up one of these personal fans.  One of the fan blades has LED's in it that are timed to flash on in a sequence so you can make out the words.  We thought it only appropriate that since N0BIXie is always flashing us with another snap shot that when he turned it on it would read "Flash Me Bob!"

Flash Me Bob

The second messages reads "IOOK Forever"

The third message reads 73 in Morse code.

There are 5 more messages that can be programmed!

While we were at the hamfest Bob and the girls went to Bed Bath and Beyond.

I think the girls got tired of waiting!

Kind of early for a Christmas Tree, eh?

Back at the hamfest things are slow.  We did sell some stuff so it made the day worthwhile for Keith.

Tom decided to make a purchase.

John liked Tom's purchase so well that he bought one too!

Gary was not to be outdone.  He went and bought one too!

What all three guys bought was one of the Chinese made HT's that came with programming software, rapid charger and remote speaker mic!  Very cool!

Here's Randy - KA0AZS with his better half, Rosie - KN8JOY!

To the best of my knowledge the only IOOK'er to win a door prize was John - N5AAA.  He won a repeater directory and a reference guide!

About 1PM we packed up and headed out to meet Bob and the girls.  This is a shot of the outside of one end of the convention complex.

Then the group headed south about 20 miles to Decatur, Indiana to the Back Forty Junction and their all-you-can-eat buffet!

This has become an annual stop for our group after the hamfest!

The place is based upon a train theme.

Yep!  That is a real caboose!

Hmm, anybody got a rag?  That bird just pooped on my head!  UGH!

While we ate soup and salad Bob ate his main dish.

Bob has finished the meats and is off to get some desert for the main dish!

Bob wasn't satisfied with John's expression on that last shot so here is a smiling close up!

Da girls!

Bob's place is beside Jean.  Can you tell what is on his plate?

Jean caught this shot of the group!

Here's is Bob's main dinner.  Two different kinds of pie plus apple crisp and ice cream!

Bob later went back and had a second plate of desert!

The Back Forty Junction features an all-you-can-eat salad bar, soup bar, bread and cheese bar, meat and vegetable bar and desert bar!  The assortment of meats included Prime Rib, Pork Loin, Ham, Turkey, Fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish and Brisket!  If you go away from there hungry it is your own fault!  As Medium Al says, we all got all fed up!
