Dallas Ham Com 2012

posted 6/9/12

A bunch of the IOOK gang attended the Dallas Ham Com today!  Here is what Stan - N5JFQ had to say about the event:

IOOK does Dallas at HamCom 2012!

Actually it is just called HamCom now and for several years it has been at the Plano Centre in Plano, TX, just north of Dallas.

With Jim on the drive down from Oklahoma is Michael Salem, making a photo op here with Stan and Aaron. One of the three in this photo made Dayton this year; he will be the only one wearing IOOK blue.

Who do I find first in the flea market, Jim! He just purchased some tower parts and swears that his two year old tower project is near completion.

Dan, K5FVL, is spending some money in the flea market.

Next, I found Hoss inside who is always ready for a photo op with the ladies. In this case my wife Liz.

Ron, AA5RT, and Michael, N5MS. Yes, I know the photo is a little dark on the faces, but I left it in the batch to show that this flea market has shade trees.

Time for the IOOK luncheon, Chas and grandson River, age 10. He picked-up a couple of books to study for his ham test. The promise: if he passes, he gets to make Dayton next year. Wow, that would mean an 11 year Vice President.

Half of the group at Poor Richards Restaurant. (Looking south if it matters to anyone)

All of the group in this pic, looking north. You can barely see 10 year old River at the end.

More hungry IOOK'ers.

Michael and Stan goofing around with the iPhone camera while waiting on lunch to arrive.

Dan and Jim. Jim is pointing out the good looking waitresses.

Lunch has arrived! A good Southern favorite, chicken fried chicken with plenty of gravy.

River with a full breakfast plate, saying he can finish it by himself. Yes, he did in true IOOK fashion.

Besides eating, the IOOK is about friends. Michael and Hoss are catching up.

Hoss and another photo op with the ladies!  This is one of the wait staff at Poor Richards AND a ham,  KE5VGO.

Ron and Hoss trying to set the GPS before heading home in Hoss' truck. You would think two grown men could just drive and find their way home.

Back at HamCom, Aaron finds Wendel, WB5ISO. Wendel noted he hasn't been to Dayton in a l-o-n-g time.

At 3:00 pm we were saying goodbye to folks and walking out the door; then zap, the lights went out just like at Dayton a few years ago. Here you can barely see the darkened W5YI booth.

I wonder if we should tell the HamCom organizers about the raw sewage incident in Dayton last year? Maybe not, surprises are fun.

Well Keith, that's all of my pictures. I know Hoss and Michael took a few also. If they don't get them in right away, give them a nudge.

With Joe Garland on vacation in Vegas the other IOOK'ers in Calumet opted out on HamCom 2012.  Oklahoma City's Ham Holiday in July is next.  Additionally, Jim and Joe have considered making the Joplin hamfest in August, since it was cancelled after last year's tornado.

Many thanks to Stan for sharing his photos and comments!
