On Wednesday, July 18, 2007, Lou, N8KXM and Keith, WA8ZWJ worked on updating the manner in which the IOOK Banner is mounted. During the tear down period of HamVention 2007 we contemplated improving the manner in which the banner was held and secured to the tarp support framework.
First, we laid out the center support structure for the IOOK Tarp that covers the IOOK Booth during HamVention. Then the conduit pipes were measured to fit the banner and the structure.
Lou washed the banner as it had some dirty spots from the years of use. Yes, he followed the directions that came with the banner!
We then cut the pipes to size and Lou drilled mounting holes that can be used to mount the banner, not only during HamVention but at other hamfests, as well as assist the mounting of the banner to the front of a table at smaller hamfests. This ought to make it possible for us to get more use out of the banner!
We then fastened the banner to the conduit frame with zip ties. Lou commented that our preparations for HamVention are a year round project, as we are now about 10 months before the next HamVention!

Below you can see the completed banner now clamped to the ladder on the wall.

The new frame will provide a flatter banner appearance and keep the bottom from swinging even in the wind. As you may recall, the old support rods we have used for several years were "threaded" through the top and bottom of the banner creating a "wavy" appearance and in windy conditions those rods could work their way loose on one end or the other.
A special thank you and a tip of the hat go to Charlie, NN3V and Loyd, K8EI for their forethought in having the banner made! It truly tells what the IOOK Technology Center is all about!
