Antenna Grounds...

Recently, Dick - WB5TUG posted this ground system for portable operations...

A new portable ground system..

Ingenuity at the work place?

Tom - K8BTE has recently returned to Arizona and has been working on a ground system for his snow bird installation.  He says:  "Seeing the Portable ground system that WB5TUG sent a picture of, I thought the IOOK group may be interested in my Arizona antenna ground system.  As many of you know the ground conductivity in most parts of Arizonian is about 0 + or - 1."

"The description viewed in the attached photos consists of a ground rod driven as far as it would go before bending in this wonderful cement like soil, 2 aluminum air register vent covers tied together with copper wire..."

ground rod and vent covers...

then tied to the ground rod which is tied to the small screwdriver antenna with 4 strands of #14 copper wire...

which is grounded to 40' of steel fence.

Antenna mount on rail of fence...

I have worked all over the US and many countries with this system, works better on 17M than my home station in Michigan."

Many thanks to Dick and Tom for sharing their grounding systems.

Maybe Max - K1MAX in Memphis can use some ideas here to improve the performance of his new antenna system?
