HamVention 2019
Posted Friday, May 24th
As usual, Jim - W5JCS sent along a photo of his HV ticket
far in advance of HamVention!
Here is a sample of the Flea Market type ticket and the non
Flea Market type ticket.
Here's what a Flea Market vehicle pass looked like this
year.
In anticipation of Fast Eddie - W8ED coming to set up the
"FLOW" on Wednesday, Keith got the fridge in place on the porch.
Ah, the new IOOK sign is up by the road!
Awards are done and ready to be handed out...
Also, the latest batch of IOOK Wear orders have been picked
up and sorted!
John - N5AAA and Tom - W3TOM arrive around 9AM to do some
computer related updates to a new radio set up of Tom's that John is familiar
with.
They are getting started...
Around 11:30 AM Fast Eddie - W8ED arrives and he and Keith
- WA8ZWJ head out to pick up the pickup truck that we borrowed from Ron -
KA8PBB's son.
When we got back Ed starts work to set up the beer fridge
and create flow...
We have flow!
It's a bit foamy but it tastes great!
We heard that Bill - WZ1L's flight was delayed so we delayed going to lunch in hopes that he will be able to join us. Well, it turned out that he had several other plane related problems and his flight was delayed again and again. We finally went to a late lunch and then headed to Fast Eddie's to load the floors in the pickup.
Here's Lou - N8KXM!
Securing the floors so they don't move around...

HamVention 2019 Note…
Greetings IOOK
First,
let me say how great it was to see so many of you during HamVention this past
weekend! What a great time!
That is the best part of any of our getting together!
From
what I have heard on the local news, HamVention was quite well attended.
They said more than 30,000 people were in attendance.
Sales on Friday were rather slow in my humble opinion. Saturday
was better sales wise. Sunday
sales were actually better for the stuff I was trying to move!
I think one of the reasons Sunday sales were so good was because a lot of
other folks had closed up and at least we were open for people to look and buy!
I came home with 2 empty tubs and several empty cardboard boxes!
We
were VERY fortunate with incredible weather!
What rain we did get happened during the night so it did not conflict
with our activities! We did have a
small weather related mishap as we were tearing down early Sunday afternoon when
a sudden hard downdraft of wind caused the canopy pipes to get bent in several
places as we were moving it to be disassembled!
Fast Eddie says he will be able to straighten them without too much
trouble!
Loyd
– K8EI’s idea about making a list of expenditures and such that he came up
with a couple of years ago has worked again!
We were able to come with an appropriate donation amount for each of the
folks attending. Due to your kind
and generous donations plus the sales we made,
all expenses have been met and our flower fund is again solvent!
Truly, we are blessed!
To
those of you who were unable to join in the fun this past weekend, we all hope
that you start planning now for your trip to the Dayton HamVention next year!
I
began working on the photos from HamVention today.
As soon as I can manage it I will post them to the IOOK web page.
Bob will be working on the photos for the DVD.
If you have any photos you would like to share please send those to me at
wa8zwj@juno.com. Keep in mind that
Juno can’t handle files larger than 5 Megs so you may need to send multiple
e-mails. Please be patient!
Many thanks!
Many
thanks to Charlie – NN3V for his fantastic chef abilities to provide us with
great lunches in the flea market! Also
a special Thank You to Joe – N8BYT who served as his stand in on Sunday!
This
year’s IOOK Hall Of Fame Award was presented to both Fast Eddie – W8ED and
Tom – W3TOM because the voting ended up in a tie!
Also Jan – KA9VQS was also inducted into the IOOK Hall Of Fame by a
unanimous vote of all present for having been the hostess of so many of the
Indianapolis Hamfest related activities over the years!
Congratulations to all of you!
It
would seem that several Vice Presidents encountered many issues with their trips
to and from HamVention again this year. UGH!
The
best part of an event like this is the fun and fellowship of this incredible
group! Many thanks to all of you for
making this a wonderful HamVention!
I
also want to say a special thank you to all the IOOK’ers who helped make set
up, tear down and everything in between go smoothly!
THANK YOU!
73,
Keith – WA8ZWJ
