Here is what Jim has to say...
Each year, the Joplin Amateur Radio Club sponsors a hamfest which has become one of the larger ham events in this area.
Started in 1990, it was held this year for the first time at the Jack Lawton Webb Convention Center, in Joplin, Missouri while the usual location the large Joplin Convention Center is being remodeled.
Situated less than 200 miles from several major cities in four states, including Little Rock, Ft. Smith, Fayetteville, Wichita, Topeka, St. Joseph, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Kansas City and Springfield, this hamfest has become popular.
It features over 180 tables in a 16,800 sq/ft air-conditioned facility, spacious parking with easy access, wide aisles, testing, prizes, and food provided by a food truck. Only two flea market tables were unsold by Saturday morning. The Grand Prize this year was an Icom IC-7300. Three years ago Joe Garland, WA5FLT won the Grand Prize a Kenwood HF rig.
It was great seeing and hanging out with IOOK buddies, Darell, WA3OPY, and Joseph, WA5FLT. We had fun and lots of laughs.
The next hamfest for this area is the 71'st Annual Texoma Hamarama, located just north of the Red River between Oklahoma and Texas.
