HamCom 2014

posted 6/18/14

HamCom is touted as being the "Biggest Hamfest In Texas".

It occurred at the Plano Centre on June 13 and 14 of 2014.

Here are some snap shots that Stan - N5JFQ and Jim - W5JCS sent in to share with the IOOK!

It's time for HamCom 2014 at the Plano Convention Center. Stan, Liz and Jim meet inside the arena.

Mike Salem - N5MS discusses world affairs with K5HMD Joe (L) and K5NI Jim (R).

Joe Garland - WA5FLT is getting to be just like Hoss, always getting a picture with the ladies.

The crowd...

Dan, John (Dan's brother) and Mike in the crowd...

Neal - N5KCO is here!  I think this is his first Hamfest for 2014.

Will - WB5YFX and an "unknown" IOOKer from Waco.

Could the mystery guest be Ron - AA5RT?

It was bright in the flea market!

Car troubles.  Neal's van has a low tire on the right front (only 17 lbs).  An unidentified young man with the HamCom committee is preparing to air up the tire as Will and Neal supervise.

Handy little 12 volt tire inflator from Wal Mart, about $20.  It took about 10 minutes but it got up to the recommended 42.

Off to lunch!  A group selfie in Liz's Beetle convertible headed to Poor Richard's Restaurant.

Mike and Liz in her convertible...

Hmm - Liz's VW is IOOK Blue!

Mike Salem ponders the menu as our waitress is patiently waiting.  Most everybody went with the chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken, but Mike decides to go healthy with a grilled shrimp salad.

Group pic.  There were 7 of us from Oklahoma and 3 from Waco at lunch.  Edward arrived shortly after the photo was taken.

Hmm - I count 8 - and what about Ron - AA5RT?

Mike must be telling a whopper that is THIS big!

After lunch almost everyone went back to HamCom for more bargains.  However, Joe and Neal went to get the van tire fixed, a bad valve stem.  Liz and I met up with family and grandson for Braums ice cream.

As I wrap up sending all of the photos I took, I heard that Neal's van got them back safely.  And I noticed, dang, sure took a lot of group selfies this year.  OK, how about one more?  Liz and I drove all the way back with the top down, as the sun is about to set on a beautiful Oklahoma evening.  IOOK forever.

Many thanks to Stan and Jim for sharing their snap shots with the IOOK!

Best 73!
