Findlay Hamfest 2011

posted 9/12/11

The 69th Annual Findlay Hamfest occurred on Sunday, 9/11/11 (Never Forget)!

Even though it rained most of the day Saturday in Findlay, the day of the hamfest was beautiful with lots of sunshine and a warm 80 degrees!  Delightful!

The first IOOK'er we saw was Rick - KK8O

Next was Tom - WD8JPP and his granddaughter, Molly

Then Glenn - W8AK and his group arrived!  We had saved a space next to ours for them.

As you can see, no fun was being had by the guys!

Here's our flea market set up!

A special thanks to Marian - WD8CJD for assisting with the setup of the space.

What an unexpected pleasure it was to see Mary Anne - W8VWY and Jay - WB8TKL.  Mary Anne's dad, Marion - W8VWY was instrumental in establishing the BARF (Benzie Amateur Radio Friends) Group on Benzie County, Michigan.

Obviously, since Marion has passed away, Mary Anne has taken her dad's call sign and kept it in the family!

Here's Wynn - W6CDR

Jack is an old family friend of ours!

and now, without further delay, here's Lou!

and Dave!

Joe - KA8C is one of the guys who rode up with Glenn

At 10:30 Eastern time we tried to check into the net.  However, the guys on frequency could not hear our barefoot signal and since things were pretty busy in the flea market, we did not take the time to start the engine and turn on the amplifier.

Here's Bob - WD8ROE!

Joe - KD8GIL is the other guy that rode with Glenn

I am sorry to say that we did not know anyone who won any of the prizes.  They draw for an HT every hour!

As we were leaving the flea market and heading towards lunch we happened upon Jim - WB8JIM!

In addition to a beautiful day, we sold pretty well and managed to come home with one empty tub of hamfest goodies!

Dave - WB8WIQ was the one who had the primary sales items in the flea market today!

A special thanks to Lou - N8KXM for helping with the tear down of the flea market booth!

Our next hamfest will be the Ft. Wayne Hamfest in November.

We hope to see you there!
