Tom - WN5TL sent along this shot of himself at the Mena,
Arkansas Hamfest on Saturday, 9/10/16. He said it was foggy and there was
I guess so! WOW!
Mena, Arkansas is located near the Ouchita National Forest.
Saturday afternoon Keith - WA8ZWJ and Marian - WD8CJD
headed towards Findlay They stayed overnight at the Fairfield Inn.
The first thing they did after checking in was go to the pool area for a
relaxing swim and some time in the whirlpool.
There had been a bunch of rain throughout the afternoon and
evening. Here's a look close to sunset.
(The following is from an e-mail sent out by the hamfest folks)
Hello from the Findlay Radio Club, Findlay, Ohio. The FRC has been holding an annual Hamfest for the past 73 years on the Sunday after Labor Day each year. Our 74th annual Hamfest is scheduled for September 11th this year. The Hamfest will be held at the Hancock County fairgrounds, 1700 E. Sandusky, Findlay, Ohio. The gates will open for set up at 6:30 AM to allow those who have tables and/or will be setting up in the flea market area to get set up. The public is welcome to come in and have some coffee and breakfast starting at 6:30. The buildings will open to the public at 8:00 AM.
Keith and Marian arrived at the fairgrounds around 6AM Sunday morning.
The first person they saw that they knew was Dave - K7DRM!
Here are Keith and Marian with the booth all set up.
It is almost dawn.
This guy was set up across from our booth. He had
some real vintage equipment!
He only had one item left when he headed home later in the afternoon!
Around 8AM Glenn - W8AK, Audrey - KC8DTM and Joe - KD8GIL arrived!
Here are Joe and Glenn and their tables set up.
A little before 9AM they announced that there would be a
color guard presenting the colors in memoriam for the 9/11 disaster that
occurred 15 years ago today.
The Boy Scouts are raising the flag...
It is time for our National Anthem!
After the flag was taken to the top of the flag pole it was
lowered to half mast in honor of those folks who were killed on 9/11 15 years
This was a very sobering ceremony. Then the crowd joined in singing "God Bless America"!
Looking north after the ceremony...
Here's a neat statue in front of the prize booth.
Here's Mark - N8ME
We already have a good crowd at a little past nine...

Here's Rob - KV8P!
Ralph agreed to have his photo taken when I told him that
Jim - AE8R used to have AA8P as his call!
Here's a rare shot of Glenn - W8AK and Audrey - KC8DTM!
It would be an understatement to say that Glenn is a bit camera shy!
As we were packing up we had a surprise visit from a friend
of the family from Keith's childhood - Jack - K8AGR!
What a fun visit!
Keith and Marian finished off their visit to Findlay by
using a coupon provided by the hotel for the all-you-can-eat buffet at Stevi
Both our lunches cost a total of less than $10.00! And the pizza was great! We always enjoy our annual visit!
In summary, we felt that the crowd was larger this year than last year.
We sold well and had a great time!
Even though it was in the 50's early in the morning, once the sun came up it warmed up nicely and there was hardly a cloud in the sky!
We had a great time and plan to do it again next year!
I strongly advise you to consider attending the Findlay Hamfest next year as well!
