IOOK Attends the Findlay, Ohio Hamfest

9/12/04

On Saturday, 9/11/04, N8KXM, Sandi, N8DRM, Tina, Meghan, WD8CJD and WA8ZWJ arrived in Findlay in anticipation of the Sunday hamfest for the guys and a shopping spree for the gals!  The gang went to Steve's Dakota Grill for dinner after some leisure time was spent in the hotel pool and whirlpool.

Sunday morning at 5:30 AM found the guys at the Waffle House for breakfast and then they were off to the hamfest!  On the way to the hamfest they chatted with Glenn, W8AK, who was on his way to the fest and made plans to hold a space for him next to the IOOK booth.  It was a little cool in the early morning, but as soon as the sun came out it was obvious that it was going to be "severe clear" and warm - absolutely a beautiful day!

We heard mixed reports about the attendance, but, it was obvious to us that there were just as many flea market vendors as their have been in the past few years.  We sold pretty well.  WA8ZWJ came home with one storage tub entirely empty!  It was also decided that a number of the items that have been going to hamfests for a while and cannot seem to be sold at any price need to go to that storage bin that goes to the end of the driveway once a week!

In the new toy department, N8DRM picked up a Telezapper and a B&K Transistor Tester;  N8KXM picked up a portable zip drive, a 50 amp Astron power supply, a can of spray contact cleaner and a "GTH" (Go To Hell) hat;  WA8ZWJ picked up a 6 meter Ringo antenna and a packet of alligator test clips.

After the hamfest closed down the gang made their way to the local Godfather's Pizza place as has become the tradition for this hamfest.  As always a fantastic time was had by the group!

Respectfully submitted,

Keith Farley, WA8ZWJ
